How I’m working to get my “natural living flow” back on track.

I'm sure this has never happened to you... However, from time to time I start to feel like I'm not a very naturally inclined person. Yup... sometimes I do. I can't help it! It just sort of creeps in! This is partially due to the fact that so much of the natural choices in my life are just second nature. You don't have to think of every little thing you do when you've been doing it for awhile, do you? There are times when it just becomes more of a reflex in your life.  Then again, I catch myself doing something that...
My biggest struggle with this entire process came when I went to check on the oils in the fridge to see if it was setting up in the bowl. I wasn't paying attention (note, I have three kids running around) and ended up spilling some of the oil on the kitchen floor.

Homemade & Tested: Calendula Whipped Coconut Butter from “101 Easy Homemade Products”

Homemade & Tested: Calendula Whipped Coconut Butter Today I am continuing on my series of Homemade & Tested and making the Calendula Whipped Coconut Butter. Each of the products I make in this series are all from using the recipes in Jan Berry's book "101 Easy Homemade Products". You can check out my full book review at 9 things I love about the book. So far in the Homemade & Tested series, I have shared the Chamomile Lip Scrub recipe, and have been absolutely enjoying the process of creating each of these items. The calendula whipped coconut butter recipe was yet another really nice and...
Since it is such a quick-make product, I'm sure I'll be keeping it on hand quite regularly. It is sweet from the sugar, and the oil adds the perfect amount of moisture.

Homemade & Tested: Chamomile Lip Scrub from “101 Easy Homemade Products”

Homemade & Tested: Chamomile Lip Scrub Last week, I shared my thoughts on Jan Berry's book 101 Easy Homemade Products. In that blog post, I also mentioned I would be sharing my experience with some of the recipes I chose to make. Today I thought I would start with the chamomile lip scrub since it is the first thing I chose to make!  I'm not exactly sure what drew me to make this one first, other than my lips tend to get chapped quite a bit. Especially when it is cold and dry... which it has been through the winter, and now that...
Keeping the cleaning to shorter periods of time is especially beneficial for the kids because it's a manageable chunk of time... and let's face it, 15 minutes for a 6 year old *can* be a really long time.

How Cleaning 15 minutes at a time saved my day… and my sanity.

From time to time IT happens. We get absorbed into whatever tasks we are doing and all of a sudden the house is a mess. Shoes and slippers are strewn around the living room. Cups on the end table. Couch blankets and pillows falling all over the place. toys here and there. There might still be laundry in the hallway where my youngest left his clothes after changing. Dishes in the sink, or on the counter. Whatever it might be, things out of place and not being utilized drove me nuts! I spent so much time trying to keep the house *constantly*...
One Dozen Chicken Coops. 12 Inspring, yet practical, Chicken Coop Designs

12 Chicken Coop Designs that are Inspiring, yet practical.

If you follow me on Instagram, you already know... BUT I have expanded my flock of chickens! In doing so I am also trying to figure out the best way to expand the housing situation for the, now, 7 chickens. Last year I bought a PawHut Chicken coop off amazon that I've really enjoyed to house the three ladies we had, but adding another four hens definitely puts our current coop past the max. We have looked at getting another chicken coop similar to the one I bought last year and then making a run to join them (once...

6 at Home Allergy and Cold Treatments

6 at Home Allergy and Cold Treatments

Allergy and cold symptoms are some of the most annoying things to deal with. This year we have dealt with a lot of these annoyances as our bodies have tried to adjust to so many wonderful things growing around us in our garden, the parks we visit, and even the baseball field my kids play at. As our first full spring in ND, it seems things are hitting us a little harder than we have experienced in the past. This is of course due to our bodies not having the experience before, so it's working harder to build up...
Holistic-Mind-Shift

A Shift of the Holistic Mind

I've taken time to reflect on my achievement of finishing the Introductory Herbal Course with Herbal Academy of New England, the first of what will probably be many herbal courses.  I am already planning on taking the Intermediate Herbal Course with HANE in the next couple of months, and I look forward to doing so. Before I do that I have decided to spend this time in thought on how I wish to move forward, as well as looking back to see how far I have already come. As part of my holistic approach to life, I've had many things to ponder...
Cinnamon Orange Ginger Tea

Cinnamon Orange Ginger Tea

I just love, love, love, ginger teas... which you may already know because I have shared a few things about ginger in the past including my Ginger tea recipe. With that said, today I am sharing this new take on an old favorite of mine. I am usually not interested in oranges, since I sort of have a *thing* for lemons. Yes, we could probably say I am a tad bit obsessed with lemons... I just love them! I put them in my water quite regularly, and just have lemon water... hot or cold, any time of the day, year...

Homeschool Life

Creating space & Setting Intention

Creating Space & Setting Intention For The Life I Want

A couple days ago I decided to do something for me. I decided to make changes necessary to allow myself to intentionally create the life that I want. I've just gotten so tired of my life being tethered to my smart phone. Yes, it is an amazing device. I'm not going to deny that it isn't. It can combine everything from my banking information, to my schedule, my kids' activity schedules, make phone calls and texts, it can be great entertainment, and it grants me access everything I would ever want or need to know. It's ALL there...  BUT...
They have done quite well starting to settle into a routine after we transitioned back to homeschooling after starting the school year in Public school.

Lessons from a Hot Chocolate Stand, Unconventional Homeschooling

I am so overwhelmingly impressed with my two older sons. They have done quite well starting to settle into a routine after we transitioned back to homeschooling after starting the school year in Public school. Then we had the holidays sneak up on us! So here we are, starting to really get into our stride. A few months back, part of the Earthschooling Curriculum we use had a math assignment for the kids to come up with an idea for a small business. Each of my boys picked things that were quite surprising to me, and the journey so far...
Embracing the Labels, Going Beyond the Labels

Embracing the labels

2014. 2015. Yup, that literally just happened. It's 2015! Sheesh. I know I'm not the only one, who does it… but it just doesn't really make it any better does it. I hope you all had a fantastic time during the holidays. I took a little break to spend some much needed time off with my family. So many family gatherings, both large and small. Spent some time, well much time, reviewing the past few months. Seeing how things have been going. Checking in with myself on where I am at with the goals I have posed. Funny how this time...

While I am at it with my Four Weeks of Thanksgiving | Giveaways, I thought I would take a moment to share with you why I love this particular product so much. Let me tell you about the amazing scents first! I first found this soap in the store because I could smell them! My nose literally brought me to...
Adventures in Pest Control | My Traumatic Experience

Adventures in Pest Control | My Traumatic Experience

So it's been about a week since I posted Adventures in Pest Control | Containing the Problem and thought I would give you a little update. Last time, we left things off with me about to go out and get some mouse traps at the store. Of course, it wasn't going to be an easy task. We were all ready to go, bundled up, stuff all together, kids waiting at the door. I go out to start the car… and it doesn't start. Figures… because everybody knows when one thing goes wrong everything else follows suit right? Lucky for me, I have a...
You're-a-Homesteader

How You Know You’re a Homesteader

I recently shared with you, in my Embracing Labels blog post, how I came across a couple of terms that I didn't really know or understand the meaning of them. Sometimes this just makes me feel like I'm old... and then I shake my head and think "I'm 30, I'm not ancient", though my kids act as if I were. I realize that sometimes we just get so busy living our lives the way we wish to live them, we forget there might names for the way we do things. It's understandable. Really, I get it. That's how it...
